Genes matter, lifestyle matters more

Genes are not pre destiny. However there are genes which are correlated to life span.

People with "short lifespan" genes had a 21% higher risk of death compared to those with "long lifespan" genes. But people with unhealthy lifestyle habits had a 78% higher risk of death compared to those with healthy habits.

Genes matter but our lifestyle matters more.

A large study of over 350,000 people from the UK Biobank shows that while we can't change our genetic code, we can significantly influence our longevity through daily choices. Unfortunately, the worst combination of poor genes and unhealthy habits doubles your risk (2.04 times the risk of death compared to those with good genes and healthy habits).

Think of it this way: your genes might deal you certain cards, but you decide how to play them. Even more encouraging, the study found no interaction between bad genes and bad habits. This means healthy lifestyle choices can help everyone, regardless of our genetic makeup.

Start with one habit and gradually build your way to a longer, healthier life
